Twitter HR Goofs Up and Uses CC to Reject Applicants

Looks like the people at Twitter have become a bit too comfortable with sharing. It seems that at 11 in the morning yesterday, Twitter gave out a rejection note to a lot of people who had sent in applications for Twitter’s current Product Manager vacancy. However, rather than using the BCC feature to keep the identities private, the HR department at Twitter made a huge mistake and sent the notice to all the people using the normal Carbon Copy feature. This led to all the people getting to know the identities of the other 185 people who had applied.

The mistake made by Twitter could lead to issues being faced by those people who currently have jobs at other places.

Evan Williams, the CEO of Twitter has sent an apology to all the people affected. Interestingly, Williams has stated that not all the people who received the rejection note had even sent in an application for the vacancy. The following is a part of William’s apology note:

“It has just been brought to my attention that we just sent this note about this job with everyone’s address exposed in the cc line.

This is obviously a big mistake, and I sincerely apologize on behalf of Krissy, myself, and Twitter, Inc. We really appreciate you expressing interest in Twitter, and I can only imagine that this type of move adds insult to injury.

To be clear: Not everyone on this list even applied for this job. Some were recommended to us and entered into our applicant tracking system by employees here.”
