Google’s New Friend Connect Feature
Google is busy in making it easier of websites to come up with features of Friend Connect. Websites can do it using what the search engine giant calls ‘Social Bar.’ This is, in essence, a toolbar that websites will be able to add on the main page or any other page of their choosing.
Websites can also add links for drop-down devices, which will let visitors to the site to do things using Friend Connect for logging in, looking out for people who have signed in of late, read comments on various subjects, site members. All of this can be carried out with the help of Social Bar. Essentially, the Social Bar is a strip that Webmasters can put up on any web page, at the top or at the bottom.
Using this, visitors will be able to have access to some information. Also, they can use the drop-down gadgets to interact with any social feature the site has managed to upload. Software Engineer, Christopher Wren said in his blog post that through this service, a lot of pixel space can be saved. There will be no need to keep sending the actual matter of a site ahead.
Google’s Social Web Blog said that users will be able to join the site they want, look at their profiles and make changes as they see fit. Users will also have an opportunity to become a part of the activities of the site like discussions, reading the latest posts and so on. Lastly, users can also identify which of the users are there on their site. Exploring profiles of other users is also allowed.
The toolbar approach is an attempt at ubiquity as well as invisibility at the same time. The search engine giant desires Friend Connect to be all over the place, but at the same time the company doesn’t want to look too assertive about the toolbar being all over.
