Yahoo to Launch Mobile Site

Yahoo recently announced that it is planning its Yahoo Mobile Service by March. The app is developed around Yahoo oneConnect, which the company had spoken about during the World Mobile Congress, held last year.

OneConnect is a social address book that is able to keep together users’ contact lists, emails, IMs, short messages, and some other activity streams from social networking portals and various social media sites from across the Internet. Developing on top of oneConnect, Yahoo Mobile will incorporate additional services like oneSearch, the mobile-optimized search engine and Yahoo onePlace, which is an impressive feed reader that lets users keep an eye on blog posts, stock updates, sports scores and so on. The different apps emerge in a well-known icon framework, simply like on the iPhone.

In March, Yahoo Mobile will become a destination on mobile browsers. It is expected to be compatible with iPhone and some of the other smartphones including, Blackberry, Nokia, Windows Mobile and other handsets. The biggest difference between the iPhone and the other smartphones app is that Yahoo mobile will have a preset icon of the Opera mobile browser in the smartphone app.

It does not look like the Opera mobile browser will be available for the iPhone. The mobile browser is not a thing over which Apple will be keen on getting exposed to competition.
