Ping.fm Receives Angel Investment from Hoffman and Ito

‘Ping.fm’ is an extremely easy, helpful application that allows users to deliver a message to more than thirty social networks at the same time. It does this by means of normal email, through the user’s cell phone or even by way of well known Internet Messenger services.

The ease in using this service seems to have got the attention of two extremely well recognised ‘angel investors,’ as per a notice placed on the Ping.fm blog. The brand new financiers are Reid Hoffman and Joi Ito. Hoffman recently took  back the position of LinkedIn CEO.

Ping.fm first received attention in early 2008. At that time Ping.fm was still in the testing stage and some believed it would just turn out to be ‘a feature of a feature’. However, the Ping.fm website looks like it is managing just fine. It seems to have got the attention of a big enough number of users to begin having issues with regards to service scalability.

It seems that Ping.fm had a few issues of its own and suffered from lethargic reaction time for the last couple of weeks. The new funding should enable them to achieve greater stability.

The following is quoted from a post placed by them:

“This is mainly because of not having the resources to maintain the volume of users and overall traffic we are seeing. This investment will allow us to scale our hardware to improve the reliability of our service as well as continue to increase the awesome that is Ping.fm instead of babysitting smoking servers all day.”
