Online search is now more meaning-based
The online search method was always carried out through a certain consistent format. Recently, however, it is stated that as opposed to earlier times, search results are entirely designed according to meaning and definitions of the consumers.
Users expect search results to match their queries. Hence, even though keyword-search still plays an integral part, search results are now more meaning-based.
In case a user types in ‘ change to mp3’ Google’s online search engines understand what he means by it and will only display relative results which pertain to converting a file to mp3 format. The online results are now displayed as such to meet the user requirements and solve queries accurately.
According to expert and Google’s search team head, Amit Singhal, people do not only need relevant page results but specific and precise answers to their questions. He said,
“It generally takes 15 to 30 days for a web page to come up in Google results but with the new real time results showing up on Google search, one can have access to new content. Trust, quality, language decency, author quality etc are kept in mind while showing real time results on Google-Twitter search.”
Regarding Google Maps, he stated that they are now concentrating on introducing landmarks in search results as it caters to user queries when it comes to locating a place. Google has also joined hands with Delhi Metro with a view to display different stations or stops on Google Maps.
Google is also looking at effectively translating search terms in English to other languages such as Hindi to cater to the vernacular search results. Through an efficient approach such as this, Google aims at broadening the user base in India.
