MySpace Remains Social Networking Leader in US
According to Hitwise, Social networking giant MySpace continues to enjoy the highest market share in US in this rapidly growing online social networking industry. The survey was released recently and showed that other competitive players also recorded much stronger year-on-over market share growth.
However, in spite of leading the US market, MySpace.com’s share of US saw a dip of 6 percent from June last year to June this year, Hitwise stated in its report. Simultaneously, MyYearbook saw an increase by 31.8 percent in its market share, but capturing just 1.54 percent of the total market share for US visits. Even then, it falls under the top three social networking sites in US, ranking third among them. Hitwise found that MySpace retained its top ranking among social networking sites in US, with whooping 71.92 percent of the market share.
Archrival and another popular social networking player Facebook ranked second in the list, with 40 percent year-on-year growth and only 16.91 percent of the market share for US visits. On the other hand, Tagged, being fourth positioned, improved its market share by massive 45 percent year-on-year, but captured only 1.08 percent, as per Hitwise.
Bebo faced disappointment as its market share plunged deeply by 41 percent year-on-year, but managed to settle at the fifth position among all social networking websites in a list prepared by Hitwise of the top 57.
As monitored by Hitwise, the number of US visits to social networking domains dip 19 percent from June 2007 to June this year, while escalating 7 percent from May to June 2008. Moreover, visitors spent an average of 27 minutes and 34 seconds in June 2008 on social networking sites, up 9 percent from June previous year.
Also on an average, users spent 31 minutes and 12 seconds on MySpace and 21 minutes and 6 seconds on Facebook last month, which is an increase of 41 percent since June 2007, stated Hitwise.
