Microsoft likely to Buy Silicon Valley Powerset Search Engine

The rumour is floating around global market that Microsoft, the software giant is arming itself with the Silicon Valley Semantic Search Engine Powerset to challenge arch rival Google in the search business. The purchase deal is likely to take place next month for $100 million, which is estimated to be double the value of the company.

The Powerset search engine is supposed to give better quality search results compared to that of Google and Yahoo search engines. Powerset will help user find the required information quickly by using simple phrases, keywords and short questions.

Since the failure of negotiations with Yahoo!, Microsoft has been looking for ways to challenge Google. The semantic based technology of Powerset will enable Micrsoft to intensify its competition with Google.

Powerset is designed with the technology of natural language search concept. It understands what the user is looking for and enables to find out needed information quickly. Google uses traditional method which takes keywords, and ranks links according to website’s popularity. Powerset technology and Microsoft’s financial backing will enhance its popularity on par with Google.

Microsoft spokesman Doug Free refused to comment on reports about the Powerset takeover.
