Intel’s Centrino 2 last-minute scare!
A news daily announced in late February that Intel was planning to launch its most awaited Montevina – based Centrino 2 platform somewhere around June of this year. But it has been confirmed that the release is delayed to July 14 due to some interface problems by its graphics and certification.Don’t worry! It is sure to release soon. The refreshed Centrino 2 platform will provide developed versions of Penryn processors running on a 1066MHz FSB with three new northbridges embedded with upgraded graphics (GM45, GM47, and PM45), and also WiMAX wireless controllers.
Those planning to upgrade their laptops in June due to earlier announcement will have to wait until July 14. Intel confirmed the problems arising in the new processor putting aside all the misunderstandings.
Intel found out two problems which are causing a delay to the launch of Centrino 2. Firstly, a problem with the integrated graphics controller on the GM45/GM47 and secondly an FCC wireless certification with the Shirley Peak 802.11n wireless controllers. Intel spokesman Bill Kircos claims that the graphics irregularities were caught in final testing and a solution has been found to tackle this problem and the misproportion with WiFi/FCC was mainly due to the careless paperwork undertaken by the Intel officials.
Such delays are the events that Intel should learn something from. After all, they should take the maximum care in a time where more delays could cost them heavily when a period of buying is fast approaching. Gathering all the adequate components necessary to achieve the ‘Centrino 2’ designation, the ubiquity of the marketing campaign that Intel will rely on to successfully target the consumers is functioning in full swing.
Intel’s existing problems are sure to add more fuel to the fire for NVIDIA’s continuum knitting of Intel’s IGP performance. NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was quoted as calling Intel’s IGPs “a joke” and that NVIDIA was “going to open a can of whoop ass” on the competition. Intel would call this absurd. Fingers crossed for Intel!
