Google leads Yahoo in Web Traffic

Traffic to Google’s web sites surged ahead of Yahoo’s in April as per the online metrics firm ComScore. This is the first time that Google has attracted more traffic than Yahoo.

With Google’s acquisition over world renowned video site YouTube, the deal certainly proved to be productive for Google as the number of visitors on YouTube is multiplying day after day due to its extreme popularity. This has caused Google web sites to take the lead with 141.1 million monthly unique visitors compared to Yahoo’s 140.6 million uniques. Since November 2003, Yahoo was enjoying the first position in ComScore’s monthly listings.

Along with handling about 60 per cent of the web searches, Google has also succeeded in attracting traffic through its other services such as news and maps that compete well with the traditional portals.

However, with YouTube serving nearly 40 per cent of all videos over the internet, and an increase in web traffic by 2 per cent to 66.2 million unique visitors from March, Google managed to grab the first place from Yahoo, thereby creating the competition even more interesting and fierce between the two online giants.
