Facebook Releases Scribe

Facebook believes in always making an effort to make the world more transparent and connected. Not only do they apply this rule to the products that they create, but they also apply this rule to the manner in which they create their new products. Facebook’s website almost completely comprises of ‘open source software’. It is dedicated to providing all interested parties and as well as the community with their open source code. Open source software is described as a code that is shared with no issues for all interested parties to use or work on, in an effort to make it even better.

It is an excellent philosophy as it enables something so useful and of such value to be utilised by the majority instead of being shared only with the minority. It has also been seen that this transparent and open method of generating software code results in excellent software being created. Facebook has gone on to announce that they will soon be launching Scribe, a very important part of their infrastructure software.

Scribe is a system that allows and enables huge quantities of data to be collected from various different servers. Facebook uses Scribe to carry out a number of functions such as keeping track of the amount of memory a database is using and also handing over stories of the relationship kind into News Feed. Scribe is said to be a big success and Facebook uses it to shift around billions of pieces of information every day.
