Facebook Catching Up with Google In Time Spent Online

Facebook surpassed MySpace in terms of international visitors as well as the amount of time spent on the website, a while back. Facebook now seems to be catching up with Google. A few days back, Facebook came out with recent statistics with regards to the increase in its user base and time spent on its website.

As of now, Facebook has not less than 140 million users who are active on its website. Out of these 140 million, 70% are not from the US. Just 50% are college students. The segment which is increasing at the most rapid pace is that of users who are 25 years and over.

At this point of time, Facebook has 52,000 applications available on its website. These applications were made by 660,000 creators. That’s a massive platform. The statistics provided by Facebook were also rather impressive.

The following is an extract of some of the stats put up by Facebook:
“User Engagement
* Average user has 100 friends on the site
* 2.6 billion minutes are spent on Facebook each day (worldwide)
* More than 13 million users update their statuses at least once each day”

“Applications

* More than 4 million videos uploaded each month
* More than 15 million pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc.) shared each month.”
