Blinkx Introduces UK Online Video Portal
Blink, a video search engine, has introduced a portal that allows users to find TV programming available online, which includes popular channels like BBC, Channel 4, ITV and Five Shows, all via a single gateway. The portal called ‘Blinkx Remote’ is similar to the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV’s planned online TV platform ‘Project Kangaroo’, which integrates content from various providers into a unique portal.
However, in majority of the cases, unlike Project Kangaroo, users will be navigated to individual broadcaster’s players to view the content. Nevertheless, the content will be hosted on Blinkx Remote in cases where it can be embedded.
Blinkx Remote provides information and brings access regarding TV programmes into a single location, thereby allowing users to search for shows by season, title, episode, genre or network. Viewers will also get to sign up and receive alerts informing them about the availability of new content.
Blinkx founder and chief executive, Suranga Chandratillake opined that the way content has been spidered and presented over the Web has been a bit messy always, further saying that Blinkx Remote tidies it up to present it in a easy-to-find and clean format.
He also said that the amount of full length shows accessible on the net has risen enormously since the last few months, and that Blinkx Remote offers a structured environment to locate this content.
It is learnt that the company will utilize its AdHoc advertising platform for serving viewers with ads targeted on the basis of their content selections. Moreover, opportunities on the site will comprise in-video advertising (like overlays), sponsorship along with video advertising.
The interesting thing about Blinkx Remote is that it uses its self-developed video search technology to filter out illegal clips, video spam and other inappropriate matter. The service carries only full-length episodes which are legally available.
