The globally recognized online search engine chief Google has chalked out plans to provide Bengali movies through its popular video-sharing site YouTube as well as post literary works of prominent novelists on the Internet. This will serve as a great boost to India, especially the Bengali culture.

As per a press release, IT Minister of West Bengal, Debesh Das stated that Google has shown interest to incorporate Bengali movies and classical literature in its online-based applications.

Apparently, a meeting had been conducted where top officials from Google Inc. and West Bengal’s Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya came together to discuss the suggested proposal to introduce Bengali popular movies and classical literature in Google’s search carrier.

Surprisingly, as per the same source, Google has also made an offer to maintain mail accounts of the entire lot of ministers as well as top officials of the state government.

Currently, a number of Bengali film songs, which date back to the time of Suchitra Sen and Uttam Kumar, were already uploaded on YouTube for free listening.

Although Google has already introduced a Bangla version for search, it is interesting to know that the search giant is taking efforts to make Bengali literary works easily available, a move than can also help in promoting the Bengali culture.

Google India has established offices in major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and Hyderabad, but it does not have any immediate plans to set up any in Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal.

The state government has specially urged Google to prepare professionals in the area of open source technology, Das stated.
