Recently, Yahoo announced support for a new meta tag. It is called ‘NOYDIR’. The new tag will enhances the older ‘NOODP’ tag; which is supported by major search sites.
Yahoo reads the title and content used in Open Directory Project (ODP) listings. It also reads the listings in Yahoo Directory to generate its search results. However, webmasters are not satisfied with the titles and descriptions that are implied in the directories. The main reason for this is that the editors of the website assign titles and descriptions. The webmasters do not perform this job. The editors view the website differently; unlike the webmasters.
Moreover, the descriptions become outdated over a course of time. It is tedious to locate and change the title and description of a website in a huge directory. Many webmasters did nit like the descriptions I the search lists on Google and similar search sites. Hence, there was a need for NOODP tag.
Search engines do not entertain the title and description of Open Directory Project entry of a website having NOODP tag. Yahoo ensured the same for NOYDIR tag.
